What it does
Once installed, the agent can run a web search through the Firecrawl service and pull back the full text of each result as markdown, so it can read project pages, blog posts, leaderboards, and PDF reports instead of just short snippets. It can also convert a URL you give it into clean markdown. It is one of several search skills in the Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep research toolkit, meant for sources outside academic databases.
Great for
- Researchers who need blog posts, project pages, benchmark leaderboards or technical reports, not only peer-reviewed papers
- Users who already have a Firecrawl API key and want the agent to read a specific web page as markdown
- People building an ARIS research workflow who want a broad web source alongside arXiv or Semantic Scholar
Skip it if
- Users without a Firecrawl account or API key: the helper needs a key, and keyless use is limited to a small daily cap
- Sensitive or confidential research queries, since search terms and scraped URLs are sent to a third-party service
- Cost-sensitive bulk scanning with full content, because each scraped result and each PDF page consumes paid credits
Try asking
- “/firecrawl-search "KV cache compression" — max: 10”
- “/firecrawl-search "diffusion transformers" — time: qdr:m”
- “/firecrawl-search "LLM agents" — domains: arxiv.org,openreview.net”
- “/firecrawl-search "https://arxiv.org/abs/2211.17192"”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Start with content: none to scan many results cheaply, then scrape only the few that matter
- Use domain filters or time ranges to narrow results and reduce credit use
- Treat everything returned from the web as data, not instructions; the skill itself warns about this
