What it does

Once installed, the agent takes a pile of receipt details (screenshots, photos, statements or a handwritten list) and extracts date, category, merchant, amount, currency and receipt type for each one. It then builds an Excel workbook with a detailed list, a summary by category and project, the company's limits, and a separate sheet listing only the problem items such as missing receipts, over-limit amounts, likely duplicates and possible personal spending, each with a suggested action. It does not guess unreadable amounts and marks them for you to verify.

Great for

  • Employees preparing a travel or business expense claim for their finance team
  • Office or finance staff reconciling receipts against a written expense policy
  • People who want a clean spreadsheet of expenses with problems highlighted before submission

Skip it if

  • Final tax or deductibility decisions: the skill explicitly does not judge tax-deductibility and says finance should review invoices before formal submission
  • Claims without a written expense policy: over-limit checks depend on limits you supply, otherwise items are only categorised
  • Submitting fixed allowance items (such as car or telecom allowances) as receipts: these are listed separately by design

Try asking

  • “Turn these receipts into an expense claim summary”
  • “Check which of these expenses break the reimbursement policy”
  • “Build an Excel expense claim for my business trip to Singapore from these receipt photos”
  • “Flag duplicate or out-of-period items in this list of expenses before I send them to finance”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Expense Claim Report BuilderInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    expense-report.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip expense-report.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip expense-report.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Provide your company's expense policy with per-category limits and required attachments so over-limit checks are meaningful
  • Give clear receipt details or clear photos; the agent will mark unreadable fields [verify] rather than guess
  • Review the Exceptions sheet and fill in the Attachment # column yourself, since the skill never invents those numbers
