What it does
When installed, the agent can turn PDFs, images, spreadsheets and presentations into structured Markdown, pull specific fields (such as invoice numbers or totals) into structured data using schemas, and sort batches of mixed documents by type. It writes and runs Python scripts that call LandingAI's hosted Agentic Document Extraction service, which needs no templates or model training, and can also return bounding boxes showing where extracted content sits on the page.
Great for
- Developers building pipelines that process many invoices, forms or statements
- Analysts who need table or field data out of messy PDFs without writing parsers
- Teams that need visual grounding (highlighting where data came from) in document review tools
Skip it if
- Documents that must stay private or confidential, because content is sent to LandingAI's hosted SaaS service (a data-handling decision that needs approval)
- Offline or air-gapped environments, because the skill depends on a remote API and an API key
- Users who just want a one-off summary of a short file, where the agent can read it directly without this setup
Try asking
- “Parse this folder of supplier PDFs into Markdown and save each one as output.md”
- “Extract invoice number, date, vendor and total amount from these invoices into a JSON file”
- “Sort this batch of scanned files into invoices, receipts and bank statements”
- “Show me the bounding boxes for the table values in this report”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Check that the API key is set in a .env file in the skill folder or as an environment variable, and never paste it into chat logs or commit it to git
- Ask the agent to confirm before installing packages, and review the scripts it generates before running them on sensitive files
- For large batches, ask for one script that processes the whole set so the documents do not need to be loaded into the agent's context window
