What it does

Once installed, the agent can examine a piece of writing and report how much it looks machine-generated. It combines a checklist of known AI writing patterns, simple statistical measures, and an optional paid score from the Pangram service, plus a free scan for invisible or hidden characters that could mark text. It explains which signals fired and why, but treats them as indicators rather than proof, and it does not rewrite the text.

Great for

  • Editors or teachers who want a second opinion on whether a draft reads as AI-generated
  • Writers checking their own drafts for stock AI phrasing before publishing
  • People who want to know whether text contains invisible watermark characters

Skip it if

  • Proving who wrote something: the signals are heuristic and can be wrong on short or edited text, so they should not be used as evidence of authorship or misconduct
  • Rewriting or 'humanizing' text, which this skill explicitly does not do and warns against
  • Plagiarism or image detection, which are excluded by the skill's own description

Try asking

  • “Scan this post for AI tells, don't change it”
  • “Is this AI generated? Give me the Pangram score too.”
  • “Is this text watermarked? Check for hidden or zero-width characters.”
  • “Which of these three drafts reads most human?”
Step-by-step guide: how to use DetectAIInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 5 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    DetectAI.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip DetectAI.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip DetectAI.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Use Detect and Watermark first since they are free and need no key; add Score only when you want the paid empirical check
  • Give longer samples, because the Pangram score carries a length caveat and short text is less reliable
  • Treat disagreement between measures as useful information and do not rely on any single score as proof
