What it does
Once installed, the agent can search open-access academic papers through the DeepXiv service and read them in layers: first a short brief, then the header or TLDR, then a named section, and only the full text if you really need it. This avoids loading whole papers into the conversation at once. It can also list trending papers and look up Semantic Scholar IDs for published venue metadata and citation counts.
Great for
- Researchers doing a literature review who want to skim many papers before reading any in depth
- Students who want a quick summary of a paper and then a specific section like the Introduction
- Anyone already using the ARIS research toolkit who wants an extra literature source
Skip it if
- Tasks needing only a simple arXiv listing or PDF download, where the /arxiv skill is more direct
- Work that must avoid network calls or third-party services, since queries and paper IDs go to DeepXiv
Try asking
- “Search DeepXiv for recent papers on agent memory and show the top 5 results”
- “Give me a brief of arXiv paper 2409.05591”
- “Show the Introduction section of paper 2409.05591”
- “What papers are trending in the last 14 days?”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Give an arXiv ID to start with the brief view, which is the cheapest read, and escalate only when needed.
- Set DEEPXIV_TOKEN yourself if you do not want the CLI to auto-register a token or save it to ~/.env.
- Check the SDK's token and .env handling before running on a machine with other secrets in ~/.env or the project .env.
