What it does

When installed, this skill tells the agent to research a complex question more thoroughly than usual. It expands the question into focus areas, scans several kinds of sources (such as Exa search, GitHub, arXiv papers, blogs and documentation), groups notes by theme, and then writes a structured answer. The answer includes a short summary, key findings, a pros and cons table, recommendations, and a list of sources.

Great for

  • Developers comparing frameworks, languages or tools before choosing one
  • Analysts preparing market or competitor overviews
  • Students or researchers who want a first structured survey of a topic with sources listed

Skip it if

  • Quick factual questions, where the extra steps add time without value
  • Situations needing verified, up-to-date facts without checking: the skill only instructs the agent to gather sources, and the agent may still summarise inaccurately or miss recent material
  • Legal, medical or financial decisions, where the output is a synthesis and should be checked by a qualified professional

Try asking

  • “Research the trade-offs between PostgreSQL and MongoDB for a high-write analytics app and list sources”
  • “Compare three open-source vector databases for a small team, with a pros and cons table”
  • “Survey recent papers and blog posts on retrieval-augmented generation and summarise the main findings”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Deep ResearchInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    deep-research.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip deep-research.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip deep-research.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give a specific question and the decision you need to make, so the agent can pick relevant focus areas
  • Ask the agent to list the sources it actually used and check the most important claims yourself
  • Specify the output language, since the skill file is written in Japanese
