What it does
When installed, the agent follows a fixed template to write a specification document for a software solution: purpose, requirements, interfaces, acceptance criteria, test strategy and more. The spec is written in precise, structured Markdown designed so that other AI tools can parse and implement it, and it is saved into a /spec/ folder using a naming convention. The skill is instructions only; it contains no scripts and does not reach the internet.
Great for
- Developers who want an AI-friendly requirements document before building a feature or component
- Teams that hand off work to AI coding agents and need self-contained, unambiguous specs
- Students learning how formal software specifications are structured
Skip it if
- Quick notes or informal planning, since the template is long and formal and may be heavier than needed
- Non-software projects, because the template assumes a solution with interfaces, APIs and tests (its test section defaults to .NET tools such as MSTest and Moq)
- Replacing human review: the generated spec reflects the agent's assumptions and still needs checking by someone who knows the system
Try asking
- “Create a specification for a user login and password reset feature”
- “Write a spec for a nightly data import tool that reads CSV files from an SFTP server”
- “Draft an architecture spec describing how our payment service integrates with external providers”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip create-specification.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip create-specification.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Describe the solution's purpose clearly when invoking the skill, since the spec filename and content depend on it
- Edit the .NET-specific test framework defaults if your project uses another stack
- Review the generated acceptance criteria and constraints against your real requirements before relying on them
