What it does
This skill teaches an agent to install the @convex-dev/sentinel component into a Convex app so that production errors (server function failures, browser JavaScript and React crashes, and concurrency or scale signals) are saved to a table in the user's own Convex deployment. Secrets are redacted before anything is written. The agent can then read recent errors with the Convex CLI and react to new ones, and optionally enable a scheduled job that classifies recurring errors and asks an AI runner to open a fix pull request.
Great for
- Developers who run a Convex app in production and want error visibility without a third-party error tracking service
- Teams that want error data kept inside their own Convex deployment
- Developers who want an agent to triage production errors and propose fixes
Skip it if
- Local development or apps not yet deployed to Convex cloud, since capturing production errors requires a deployed app
- Non-Convex stacks, where this component does not apply
- Teams that cannot accept an automated job opening pull requests against their code without close review, because the optional self-healing cron hands errors to an AI runner
Try asking
- “Set up Sentinel production error capture in my Convex app”
- “Add a React error boundary and window error handlers that report to Sentinel”
- “Show me the last 20 production errors from my Convex deployment”
- “Enable the Sentinel triage cron so recurring non-transient errors get a fix PR”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip convex-sentinel.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip convex-sentinel.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Keep redaction on (it is on by default) and review what fields are captured before going live
- Set sampling and caps early to control volume and cost
- Review any fix PRs the triage job opens before merging, rather than enabling auto-merge
