What it does
When installed, the agent treats a slow or expensive Convex (a backend database and functions platform) app as a performance problem to investigate. It gathers signals such as Convex insights, traces which functions read and write which tables, and then applies targeted fixes from reference guides on read amplification, write contention, subscription cost, and execution limits. It is designed to prefer simple code over large restructuring unless the evidence justifies it.
Great for
- Developers maintaining a Convex app whose pages feel slow or whose usage bills look high
- Teams seeing OCC (optimistic concurrency control) conflict errors or mutation retries
- Developers hitting function timeouts or transaction size limits
Skip it if
- Initial Convex setup, auth configuration, or schema migrations with no performance goal, since the skill says not to use it for these
- Projects with small traffic where the skill's own guardrails advise leaving simple code alone, because restructuring may add complexity without benefit
Try asking
- “My Convex dashboard page feels slow, can you audit the queries behind it?”
- “Run convex insights and tell me which functions are causing high bytes read”
- “I'm getting OCC conflict errors on my mutations, help me find the contention source”
- “Check our subscriptions for excessive re-renders and reactive query cost”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip convex-performance-audit.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip convex-performance-audit.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Give the agent a specific symptom or insight output so it starts from a real signal rather than guessing
- Review any proposed digest tables, document splits, or migrations before approving, since the skill asks the agent to present options first
- Confirm which deployment (prod or preview) the agent is querying before it runs insights
