What it does

When installed, the agent knows how to set up recurring background tasks in a Convex app, such as jobs that run every few minutes or hours. It creates a convex/crons.ts file, points each job at an internal function rather than a public one, and writes the job so it can be safely re-run. It also reminds the agent to check that the job shows up in the Convex dashboard schedule.

Great for

  • Developers building a Convex backend who need periodic cleanup, syncing or reminder tasks
  • Teams who want scheduled jobs that won't break or double-process data if they run twice

Skip it if

  • Projects not using Convex, since the instructions only apply to Convex apps (the skill would not help with other schedulers)
  • Cases where a job runs on a very tight interval for data that could be pushed by a subscription instead, which the skill itself advises against because it wastes resources

Try asking

  • “Add a cron job that deletes expired sessions every hour”
  • “Schedule a nightly job that recalculates usage totals in my Convex app”
  • “Set up a recurring task that syncs data from an external API every 15 minutes”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Convex Scheduled JobsInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    convex-crons.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip convex-crons.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip convex-crons.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Name the job and the interval you want so the agent can pick a sensible schedule
  • Ask the agent to show the handler code and review it, since the generated jobs run automatically in production
  • Check the Convex dashboard after deploying to confirm the schedule is active
