What it does
When installed, the agent treats a plain text document as something to restructure into clean markdown. It can follow instructions you give it, a documented set of options, or a previously converted markdown file used as a template. It can add heading levels, apply patterns found in the file, trim messy spacing, and target a specific renderer such as GitHub, GitLab or VS Code. The skill describes the conversion process in prose; it does not ship any scripts of its own.
Great for
- Maintainers who have old README or plain text docs they want in markdown
- Technical writers converting a batch of text files to a consistent layout
- Anyone who wants a reference file's formatting copied onto a new document
Skip it if
- Documents that are already markdown and only need minor edits, since the skill is built for plain text input
- Very large or highly structured files where a dedicated converter tool would be more reliable and auditable; the agent's output may need manual review
Try asking
- “Convert notes.txt to markdown with headers added at level 2 for each section”
- “Convert this plain text manual to markdown using the same layout as guide.md”
- “Clean up the indentation in this text file and format it for GitHub, finalize”
- “Convert the document up to line 120 and stop there, following the rm-head-digits predefined instruction”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Name the target platform (GitHub, GitLab, VS Code) so the output renders as you expect
- Provide a reference markdown file with guide to keep formatting consistent across several documents
- Review the result, since the skill copies the original file to a .md version and edits it in place
