What it does
This skill teaches an AI agent to drive MuseScore 4, a music notation program, through a command-line tool. Once installed, the agent can transpose a score to another key or by a set number of semitones, pull out individual instrument parts, add or remove instruments, and export the score as PDF, PNG, MP3, MIDI, MusicXML or Braille. It can also inspect a score and compare two versions.
Great for
- Musicians or arrangers who need a score transposed or split into parts quickly
- Music teachers preparing printed parts or audio files for students
- Developers building music workflows that batch-convert MuseScore files
Skip it if
- Users without MuseScore 4 installed, since the skill depends on its mscore backend and will not work without it
- Anyone expecting to compose or edit individual notes; the listed commands cover transposition, parts, instruments, and exports rather than note entry
Try asking
- “Transpose score.mscz to D major and save it as out.mscz”
- “Extract the Piano part from this score and export it as a PDF”
- “Export this score as an MP3 at 192 kbps and a MIDI file”
- “Remove the Violin part from my score and show the instrument list”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Always work on a copy and give an explicit -o output path, because transposition and instrument changes write new files.
- Run media probe on an unfamiliar score first so the agent knows what it contains before editing.
- Use the session undo and history commands to step back if an edit goes wrong.
