What it does

This skill teaches an AI agent to operate the LLDB native debugger through a command-line wrapper called cli-anything-lldb, which returns structured JSON. Once installed, the agent can load an executable, launch or attach to a process, set and manage breakpoints, read stack frames, local variables and memory, evaluate expressions, and load core dumps. It can also run a Debug Adapter Protocol server so editor or AI clients can use a standard debugging interface.

Great for

  • Developers debugging C, C++, or other native programs who want an AI assistant to step through crashes or inspect state
  • Engineers analysing core dumps or attaching to a running process to investigate a problem
  • Teams building AI tooling that needs a programmatic debug adapter for native apps

Skip it if

  • Non-developers or people without a native program to debug, since the skill assumes familiarity with breakpoints, frames and memory addresses
  • Debugging live production systems or processes you do not own, because attaching to and reading memory of running processes can expose sensitive data and disrupt services
  • Environments where the LLDB Python bindings cannot be installed, since the tool will not work without them

Try asking

  • “Load ./build/myapp, set a breakpoint on main with a condition i > 10, and run until it stops”
  • “Attach to pid 1234 and show me the backtrace and local variables of the current frame”
  • “Read 128 bytes of memory at address 0x1000 and search that region for a string”
  • “Load this core dump file and tell me where the program crashed”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    skills.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip skills.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip skills.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Always call target create before process or core commands, and run session close when finished so attached processes detach and launched programs are cleaned up.
  • Prefer --json output for automated flows and only pass --allow-pending to breakpoints when a module or symbol is expected to load later.
  • Only debug programs and processes you own or are authorised to inspect, and be cautious about memory reads that may contain secrets.
