What it does
This skill teaches an AI agent to drive a command-line interface for Inkscape, a free vector graphics editor. Instead of only describing edits, the agent can create documents, add shapes, text, layers, gradients and styles, apply transforms and boolean path operations, and export to PNG, SVG or PDF. The project is tracked in a JSON file with undo and redo, and output can be requested in JSON so the agent can read results.
Great for
- Designers who want an agent to build or adjust SVG artwork, title cards or simple graphics step by step
- Developers automating repeatable vector exports such as PNG or PDF renders from a project file
- Anyone who wants a scriptable, undoable record of vector edits
Skip it if
- Photo retouching or pixel-based editing, since this is for vector and SVG work (the reason: the commands target vector objects)
- Users who cannot install Python 3.10+ and Inkscape on their machine (the reason: both are listed as prerequisites)
- Sensitive or client files you do not want processed by a local tool the agent runs (the reason: the agent will execute the CLI on your project files)
Try asking
- “Create a new Inkscape project and add a title card with wrapped text and a blue rectangle background”
- “Apply a linear gradient to the circle on layer 2 and export the project as PNG”
- “Undo the last three edits and show me the document history”
- “Export my project to PDF with overwrite enabled”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Install Inkscape and the pip package first, then ask the agent to run --help so it can see the available commands.
- Ask for --json output when the agent needs to read results reliably.
- Keep a backup of important SVG or project files, since edits write to the project JSON and exports overwrite files when asked.
