What it does
Once installed, Hermes Agent can act as a builder of CLI-Anything harnesses: it takes a local source folder or GitHub repo for a GUI application or codebase and produces a Python command-line interface (Click-based, with JSON output, a default interactive mode, tests and an installable package). It follows the CLI-Anything methodology, preferring to wrap the real software backend rather than reimplement it. The skill also includes a helper script that copies the skill into the Hermes skills folder.
Great for
- Developers who want an AI agent to generate a scriptable CLI for a GUI tool or repository
- Teams refining or testing an existing CLI-Anything harness
- Users of Hermes Agent who want the CLI-Anything workflow inside that runtime
Skip it if
- People who just want to run an existing CLI tool; this skill builds harnesses rather than operating software (no benefit without a source project)
- Use on sensitive codebases without review, because the agent will run terminal commands, install packages and may fetch code from GitHub
Try asking
- “Build a CLI harness for ./gimp using the CLI-Anything methodology”
- “Refine the existing harness in ./inkscape by adding missing commands”
- “Create and run e2e tests for the blender harness via the installed cli-anything-blender command”
- “Validate that my harness has a setup.py entry point and JSON output”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Point the agent at a local clone of CLI-Anything so it reads HARNESS.md locally instead of downloading it
- Review generated code and the commands the agent runs in the terminal before trusting the harness
- Run the install script only after reading it; it refuses to overwrite an existing skill folder, so remove the old one manually to reinstall
