What it does
Once installed, the agent can check a subtitle or caption file (SRT or WebVTT) against published delivery standards such as Netflix English, BBC guidelines or the US DCMP Captioning Key. It measures reading speed, line length, number of lines, how long each caption stays on screen, and gaps or overlaps between captions. When something fails, it prefers retiming and re-breaking lines over rewording, so the speaker's words are kept. It can also write a small Python script to run the same check repeatedly, such as in a build pipeline.
Great for
- Video editors preparing captions for a streaming platform or broadcaster
- Accessibility or education staff checking US educational media against the DCMP key
- Developers who want a caption check that fails a CI build when a subtitle file is bad
Skip it if
- Generating captions from audio or video: the skill only checks and fixes existing caption files, and it does not transcribe speech
- Legal compliance sign-off: the skill applies published style limits from the files, but a platform's current specification or a regulator's rules may differ and should be confirmed by the delivery team
Try asking
- “Check captions.srt against Netflix English adult limits and list the failing cues with timecodes”
- “Does this WebVTT file read too fast for BBC subtitle guidelines?”
- “Fix the flagged captions by retiming them first, keeping every word”
- “Write a Python script that fails CI if any caption in the subtitles folder breaks the limits”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Tell the agent the target standard and, for Netflix or other frame-based limits, the frame rate of the video (the skill assumes 24 fps if you do not say).
- Ask for a count summary first, then the first few failing cues of each kind, rather than the full list.
- Re-run the check after fixes, since retiming can create new overlaps or gaps that are too short.
