What it does
This skill gives the AI agent a step-by-step playbook for Microsoft's Azure Static Web Apps, a hosting service for websites with optional serverless backend APIs. Once installed, the agent knows the correct order of commands (install the SWA CLI, run swa init, test locally with swa start, log in and deploy), how to write the routing and access-control file staticwebapp.config.json, and how to add an Azure Functions API folder. It is instructions only; it does not itself run anything until the agent chooses to run the listed commands.
Great for
- Developers deploying a React, Vue, Angular or similar frontend to Azure
- Teams setting up local emulation of a static site with an API before deploying
- Anyone who needs help wiring a GitHub Actions deployment to Azure Static Web Apps
Skip it if
- Non-developers or people not using Azure: the skill assumes an Azure account, Node.js and a command-line workflow
- Production deployments without review: commands like swa deploy --env production push live changes and the skill does not add safeguards beyond a --dry-run option
Try asking
- “Set up Azure Static Web Apps for my React project and deploy it to production”
- “Add an Azure Functions API to my static site and test it locally on port 4280”
- “Create a staticwebapp.config.json that requires login for /api routes”
- “Help me set up GitHub Actions to deploy my static site to Azure”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Ask the agent to run swa deploy --dry-run first and review what would change before a production deploy
- Keep deployment tokens and client secrets in environment variables or a secrets manager rather than pasting them into chat or committing them to git
- Let swa init generate swa-cli.config.json rather than writing it by hand, as the skill instructs
