What it does

This skill lets an AI agent answer questions about your Amazon Web Services (AWS) setup, such as which servers are running, which storage buckets exist, or which Lambda functions are deployed. The agent translates your question into the matching AWS command-line query, runs it, and shows the results as a readable table. It is designed to only look at resources, never to create, change, or delete them.

Great for

  • Engineers who want a quick inventory of EC2, S3, Lambda, ECS or EKS resources without memorising CLI syntax
  • Cloud operators checking for unattached volumes, stopped instances or public S3 access settings
  • Teams reviewing an AWS account during an audit or incident investigation

Skip it if

  • Anyone wanting the agent to make changes such as starting, stopping or deleting resources, since the skill refuses write actions by design
  • Accounts where the AWS CLI credentials have broad access to sensitive data, because query results (including secret metadata and IAM details) are sent to the AI model
  • Users without an AWS CLI setup, since the skill cannot work without configured credentials

Try asking

  • “What EC2 instances are currently running in us-east-1?”
  • “List my S3 buckets and show which ones have public access blocked”
  • “Show unattached EBS volumes I might be paying for”
  • “Which Lambda functions have event source mappings and what are their memory settings?”
Step-by-step guide: how to use AWS Resource QueryInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    aws-resource-query.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip aws-resource-query.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip aws-resource-query.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Use a read-only IAM role or profile so the agent cannot exceed the intended permissions, even if a command were misused
  • Name the region in your question to avoid querying the default region by mistake
  • For large accounts, ask for a filtered view (for example by tag or state) to keep output manageable
