What it does
When installed, the agent follows a multi-step workflow to find ways to cut your Amazon Web Services bill. It reads your infrastructure-as-code files (such as Terraform or CloudFormation), queries your AWS account through the AWS CLI for resource lists, usage metrics and cost data, and compares them against cost-saving patterns like right-sizing, Graviton or Savings Plans, and S3 lifecycle rules. After showing you a summary and asking for approval, it creates one GitHub issue per optimization plus a coordinating EPIC issue.
Great for
- Engineering teams that run workloads on AWS and want a structured monthly cost review
- Developers who keep infrastructure as code in a GitHub repository and want tracked follow-up tasks
- Teams comfortable granting an AI agent read access to their AWS account via the CLI
Skip it if
- Accounts where the AWS CLI credentials have broad write or billing permissions, since the agent runs read commands against live resources and a mistake in setup could expose more than intended
- Non-AWS clouds or fully serverless setups with no IaC files, because the workflow stops if no IaC files are found
- Production changes made without review, since the skill recommends changes and the validation steps still need a human to test them
Try asking
- “Analyze the AWS resources in this repo and suggest cost savings for the us-east-1 region”
- “Find unattached EBS volumes and gp2 volumes we can convert to gp3”
- “Review our Lambda functions for oversized memory settings and create GitHub issues for the savings”
- “Summarize our potential monthly AWS savings before creating any issues”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Use read-only IAM credentials for the analysis so the agent cannot change resources.
- Review the summary in Step 5 carefully and reply no if the recommended savings or risk levels look wrong before any issues are created.
- Scope the analysis to one region or one IaC folder first to keep the metrics queries manageable.
