What it does

Once installed, the agent can take a research input such as a PDF paper, GitHub repository, experiment log, or raw notes and reorganize it into an Agent-Native Research Artifact (ARA). That artifact is a folder of structured files covering claims, key concepts, methods, configs, code stubs, an exploration graph, and evidence pointers, so another agent or person can trace and check the research. The skill gives step-by-step instructions for reading sources, separating evidence from interpretation, and validating the output.

Great for

  • Researchers who want to turn a paper or codebase into a structured, checkable knowledge package
  • Developers building tooling around research reproducibility
  • Students digesting a complex paper into claims, concepts and experiments

Skip it if

  • Quick summaries where a plain reading of the paper is enough, since the process is long and produces many files
  • Sources you do not have the rights to process or that contain confidential data, because the agent reads and writes the content locally and may fetch URLs

Try asking

  • “Compile this arXiv paper PDF into an ARA with claims, concepts and experiment plans”
  • “Build an ARA from this GitHub repository and its experiment logs in ./ara-output”
  • “Convert my raw research notes into a falsifiable, agent-traversable knowledge package”
Step-by-step guide: how to use ARA CompilerInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 4 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    compiler.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip compiler.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip compiler.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Provide the full paper including appendices, since the skill treats appendix content as important for reproduction
  • Give the agent clear output paths with --output and review the generated claims for overstatement before relying on them
  • Run the validation step and check the report, as the skill asks the agent to fix failures and re-validate
