Comments and anchors in YAML are not carried over to JSON (JSON has neither). YAML is parsed with the core schema, so values like 2026-10-28 stay strings rather than becoming dates. Multiple YAML documents become a JSON array.

FAQ

Why did my YAML comments disappear?

JSON has no comment syntax, so comments can't survive the conversion. Converting back to YAML won't restore them.

Why is “yes” or “on” still a string?

This converter uses YAML 1.2's core schema, where only true/false are booleans. That avoids the classic “Norway problem” where the country code NO turns into false.
