What it does

This skill lets an AI agent compare the jobs you have tracked, and the postings it has ranked for you, against your candidate profile. It spots the skills you lack, weights them by how often and how strongly they show up in roles you care about, and produces a heatmap of gaps. It then searches the web for study resources and proposes a recommended order to learn things in. A targeted mode does the same for a single job posting URL.

Great for

  • Job seekers who already track applications in a CSV and want to know which skills to build next
  • Career changers who want a prioritized study plan tied to real job postings
  • Users of the job-application-assistant workflow who want gap reports saved over time

Skip it if

  • Users without a tracker file or candidate profile, since the skill cannot produce meaningful gaps without them
  • Anyone relying on the study resources as verified, since they are fetched from the web and may be outdated or inaccurate
  • Situations where job postings may contain injected instructions, since the skill treats them as untrusted data but still reads them into the agent's context

Try asking

  • “/upskill”
  • “/upskill https://example.com/jobs/senior-ml-engineer”
  • “What should I learn to get the data engineering roles I have been tracking?”
  • “Build me a learning plan based on my skill gaps”

Get better results

  • Keep your candidate profile up to date so gaps are not reported for skills you already have
  • Re-run /rank --all on older scored jobs so they contribute gap data to the heatmap
  • Review the study resources yourself before committing time to them, since they come from live web search
