What it does

This skill teaches an AI agent the conventions of Conductor tracks, which are logical work units for features, bugs and refactors. Once installed, the agent knows how to write spec.md and plan.md files, keep task status markers and the tracks.md registry up to date, record commit SHAs, and move a track through creation to completion. It can also read a longer reference document for worked examples when the summary guidance is not enough.

Great for

  • Developers who use the Conductor workflow to organise project work into tracks
  • Teams that want consistent spec and plan files for each feature, bug or refactor
  • Tech leads who want agents to keep track status and phase breakdowns current

Skip it if

  • Projects that do not use Conductor or its spec.md, plan.md and tracks.md conventions, since the guidance will not match their process
  • Non-technical users looking for general project management help, because the skill is specific to one file-based workflow

Try asking

  • “Create a new feature track for user authentication with a spec.md and a phased plan.md”
  • “Review my spec.md for this bug fix and tell me whether it is ready for planning”
  • “Update the tracks.md registry and mark the completed tasks in the refactor track with their commit SHAs”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Track ManagementInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 2 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    track-management.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip track-management.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip track-management.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Point the agent at your existing Conductor folder so it can follow your current file layout and naming
  • Ask for a spec review before planning, since the skill recommends complete specs first
  • Keep each track to one concern and roughly one to five days of work, as the guidance suggests
