What it does

When a user asks for a literature review or related-work survey, this skill tells the agent to follow a structured method: set inclusion and exclusion criteria before searching, search several academic databases with broad and narrow queries, screen papers by title and abstract before reading full text, extract methods, datasets, metrics and findings, and synthesize gaps rather than just listing summaries. It is a set of written instructions only; it does not itself fetch papers.

Great for

  • Researchers or students preparing a related-work section or survey of a topic
  • Anyone who wants a repeatable, transparent process for finding and screening papers
  • Teams using an AI research pipeline that needs a disciplined literature stage

Skip it if

  • Medical or clinical systematic reviews that need formal PRISMA reporting, protocol registration and dual human screening; the skill only borrows the PRISMA idea and is not a complete compliance tool
  • Situations where the agent's database results are not checked by a human, since the agent may cite papers that do not exist or misstate findings

Try asking

  • “Do a systematic literature review on sparse attention methods for transformers from the last three years”
  • “Screen these 80 search results against my inclusion criteria and summarize methods and datasets”
  • “Find related work on federated learning for medical imaging and identify gaps”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Systematic Literature ReviewInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    systematic-review.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip systematic-review.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip systematic-review.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • State your inclusion and exclusion criteria up front so the agent applies them before searching.
  • If the agent has search tools, confirm which databases (for example Semantic Scholar, arXiv, OpenAlex) it actually queried and verify key citations yourself.
  • Ask for the gap analysis explicitly; the skill emphasises synthesis over summaries.
