What it does

When installed, this skill lets an AI agent run two small bundled Python scripts on the machine hosting the AgentOS process. One reports hostname, operating system, CPU architecture, Python version and path, processor, and current UTC time. The other lists the files and subfolders in a directory (the current or a specified one) with sizes for files. The agent then reports these results instead of guessing about the host.

Great for

  • Developers debugging an AgentOS deployment who want to confirm which machine and Python version it runs on
  • Operators who need a quick inventory of a directory on the host
  • Developers learning how agent skills execute bundled scripts, as a readable example

Skip it if

  • Anyone who does not want an agent reading file names and sizes on their machine, since the directory script can list any path it is given (it has no restriction to the skill folder)
  • Environments where exposing hostname, paths, and Python executable location to the agent or its users is a concern
  • Use as a security or compliance audit tool, since it only reports basic facts and was not written for that purpose

Try asking

  • “What operating system and Python version is this AgentOS server running?”
  • “List the files in the current project directory on the host”
  • “Show me the contents of the data folder with file sizes”
  • “What is the current UTC time on the machine running this agent?”
Step-by-step guide: how to use System Info InspectorInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 3 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    system-info.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip system-info.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip system-info.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Ask for a specific path when listing directories, rather than relying on the default, so the agent inspects only what you intend
  • Review the scripts in scripts/ before installing, since the agent executes them directly on the host
  • Restrict which users can reach the AgentOS endpoint, because this skill exposes host details to whoever can prompt the agent
