What it does

When installed, the agent follows a fixed review process: it consults a bundled style guide, runs a small Python script that flags simple style problems (long lines, trailing whitespace, camelCase names, single-letter variables), then looks for bugs, security and performance issues. Its feedback is grouped into Critical, Important and Suggestion levels, and it checks a short list such as hardcoded secrets, error handling and missing tests. The script is a basic heuristic checker, so the agent's own reading of the code does most of the work.

Great for

  • Developers who want a first-pass review of Python code before a human reviewer looks at it
  • Teams that want consistent review feedback against a shared style guide
  • Learners who want a checklist-driven review of their own code

Skip it if

  • Replacing a full linter such as ruff or flake8, since the bundled check is a simple heuristic (the camelCase check, for example, is approximate) and only covers Python (reason: limited accuracy)
  • Security-critical code where a sign-off is required, because the agent can miss vulnerabilities and the skill does not run a security scanner (reason: false sense of assurance)
  • Reviewing code you cannot share with an AI service, because the code is sent to the model provider during review (reason: data privacy)

Try asking

  • “Review this Python module for style issues and bugs before I open a pull request”
  • “Check my new functions against the code-review checklist and label each finding Critical, Important or Suggestion”
  • “Run the style checker on utils.py and explain the issues it reports”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Code Review SkillInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 3 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    code-review.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip code-review.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip code-review.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Paste or point to the specific files or diff you want reviewed so the agent scopes its checks.
  • Ask for only one severity level (for example Critical) if you want a short, blocking-issues-only review.
  • Treat the script output as a hint, not a verdict, and confirm flagged items yourself.
