What it does

This is a set of written instructions that teaches an AI assistant how to help plan a sprint, the fixed-length work cycle many software teams use. Once installed, when asked to plan a sprint, the agent estimates how much work the team can handle (accounting for people's availability and a 15-20% buffer), selects stories from the prioritized backlog, orders them around dependencies, lists risks with mitigations, and writes a summary with a single sprint goal. It can read any backlog, velocity, or roster files you provide.

Great for

  • Scrum teams or product owners preparing for sprint planning meetings
  • Agile coaches or students learning how capacity and scope are balanced
  • Anyone who wants a structured draft plan to refine with their team

Skip it if

  • Teams without a backlog or velocity history, since the output depends on those inputs and the skill does not supply them (the agent may guess)
  • Final commitments made without team review, because estimates and risks are generated from the text provided and not verified against real project data

Try asking

  • “Plan a two-week sprint for our payments team using the attached backlog and last three sprints' velocity”
  • “Estimate capacity for a team of five with one person on PTO and two days of on-call next sprint”
  • “Help me choose stories from this prioritized backlog that fit within 40 story points, and flag dependencies”
  • “Draft a sprint goal and risk list for the mobile app team's next sprint”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    sprint-plan.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip sprint-plan.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip sprint-plan.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Provide your backlog, last three sprints' velocity, and team availability up front so the capacity math is grounded in real numbers.
  • Treat the output as a draft: check story estimates and owners with your team before committing.
  • Ask the agent to save the plan as markdown, as the instructions suggest, so it can be shared or edited easily.
