What it does

Once installed, the agent follows a set of Spring Boot 3.x best practices when you ask it to build Java backend code. It produces entities, repositories, services, REST controllers, DTOs, validation, exception handling and tests using constructor injection and layered design, and it loads reference notes on security, data access, cloud integration, web and testing when relevant. It also works through a build-test-deploy loop, running Maven or Gradle tests and checking the Actuator health endpoint.

Great for

  • Java developers building Spring Boot 3.x REST services
  • Teams setting up Spring Security 6 authentication or JPA repositories
  • Engineers exploring reactive WebFlux or Spring Cloud microservices

Skip it if

  • Non-Java projects, since the guidance is specific to Spring Boot (the skill does not cover other frameworks)
  • Production security decisions without human review, because generated auth and CORS configuration can contain mistakes that only a security review or tests will catch
  • Projects that must avoid the agent running build or test commands, because the workflow instructs it to run ./mvnw test or ./gradlew test

Try asking

  • “Create a Spring Boot REST controller and service for managing orders with validation”
  • “Set up Spring Security 6 with JWT authentication for my API”
  • “Write a JPA repository and entity for products with a search-by-name method”
  • “Add a Spring Cloud Gateway route and a resilience circuit breaker to my service”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 6 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    spring-boot-engineer.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip spring-boot-engineer.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip spring-boot-engineer.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Ask the agent to confirm the design before coding, as the workflow expects, and review the generated security rules yourself.
  • Keep secrets in environment variables or Spring Cloud Config, which the skill recommends over application.properties.
  • Name your Spring Boot version and build tool up front so the generated configuration matches your project.
