What it does
Once installed, when you ask a technical question about Google products (Google Cloud, Firebase, Android, Flutter, Go, Gemini and others), the agent looks up official Google documentation through the Developer Knowledge service rather than answering from memory. It can search for exact gcloud commands, API syntax and IAM permissions, or fetch a full documentation page, and then gives you a complete, runnable answer. If the lookup fails, it is instructed to tell you plainly that it could not reach the documentation.
Great for
- Developers building on Google Cloud, Firebase or Android who need current CLI flags and API syntax
- Engineers checking IAM permission names or product comparisons before making a decision
- Teams who want answers tied to official docs rather than the model's memory
Skip it if
- Questions about local files or code in your own project, since the skill searches only Google's public documentation (the description says not to use it for filesystem lookups)
- Non-Google technologies, which the skill explicitly excludes
- Situations where you cannot provide a Google credential or API key, because the lookup will fail and the agent will say so
Try asking
- “How do I configure public read access on Cloud Storage with gcloud?”
- “What IAM permission lets a service account publish to a Pub/Sub topic?”
- “Show me the gcloud command to mount a Filestore NFS share on Cloud Run”
- “Compare Cloud Run and GKE for a small containerized web app”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Ask a specific question with product names, such as a service and a command, so the search returns precise results
- Make sure gcloud is logged in or set DEVELOPERKNOWLEDGE_API_KEY before starting, since auth errors are the most common failure
- Check that the answer says it came from a documentation lookup; if it says it could not reach the service, verify the credential before trusting the reply
