Gets an agent to hand finished work to a separate reviewer subagent before merging

What it does

When installed, the agent can ask a separate reviewer helper (a subagent) to check its completed work against the requirements before it is merged. The agent collects the commit range and a short description of the change, fills in a review template, and sends that to the reviewer so the review stays focused on the code rather than the full chat history. The agent then sorts the feedback into critical, important and minor items and fixes or pushes back on each.

Great for

  • Developers using AI agents for multi-step coding tasks who want a second check before merging
  • Teams following subagent-driven development who want a review after each task
  • Anyone who wants a fresh perspective when the agent is stuck or about to refactor

Skip it if

  • Projects without git, since the workflow depends on commit SHAs; the reviewer cannot see the change without them
  • Non-coding work or documents, where the code-review template does not apply
  • Replacing human review on high-stakes code: the output is an AI opinion and can miss issues or be wrong

Try asking

  • “Review my changes since the last commit before I merge to main”
  • “I just finished Task 2 of the plan, get a code review before we continue”
  • “Dispatch a reviewer subagent to check the new authentication module against the requirements”
  • “Before I refactor the parser, run a baseline review of the current code”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Requesting Code ReviewInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 2 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    requesting-code-review.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip requesting-code-review.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip requesting-code-review.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give the reviewer a clear description and the plan or requirements it should check against, since it only sees what you pass in
  • Check the commit range (BASE_SHA and HEAD_SHA) before dispatching so the reviewer looks at the right diff
  • Treat reviewer findings as suggestions to verify, not instructions; the skill itself says to push back when feedback is wrong
