What it does

When installed, the agent follows a fixed playbook for announcing software releases. It first asks who the reader is and picks the right format (a terse changelog entry, detailed release notes, a dev blog post, an in-app message, or a social post), then leads with what changed, who it affects, and what the reader should do. It also includes dated, explicit upgrade or migration steps and flags breaking changes. The file also contains optional steps for recording the release copy as structured records inside the Paperclip product, but only if that feature is enabled.

Great for

  • Open-source or product teams writing release notes for users and developers
  • Developer relations or product staff who must publish the same release to several channels
  • Writers who want consistent changelog and blog structure with clear migration callouts

Skip it if

  • Internal-only changes with no user impact, since the skill itself says not to announce these (wasted effort, not a risk)
  • Unfinished features: the skill tells the agent to wait until shipping, so it will not help pre-announce work-in-progress without human judgement
  • Teams not using Paperclip who expect the agent to publish anything automatically; the skill only drafts copy and does not post it

Try asking

  • “Write a changelog entry and a short social post for version 2.3.0, which adds CSV export and fixes a crash on Windows”
  • “Draft a dev blog post for our breaking API change, with a migration section showing before and after code”
  • “Create an in-app note telling existing users that the new dashboard is now generally available”
  • “Turn these merged pull requests into release notes for adopters, including a compatibility table”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Release Announcement WriterInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    release-announcement.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip release-announcement.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip release-announcement.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give the agent the real release facts (version, date, PR links, migration steps) so it does not invent numbers or dates, since the skill asks for verifiable claims.
  • Ask for one channel at a time; the skill advises against blending audiences into one post.
  • If you use Paperclip with cases enabled, the agent will also try to create release records via its API; check those records and the 403 fallback behaviour before relying on them.
