What it does

It scans folders on your computer for git repositories that have gone quiet, reads each one's commit history to guess why it was abandoned, and summarises your recurring patterns of unfinished work. It then picks the single abandoned project most worth reviving, checks whether the problem that stopped it has become easier since, and helps you plan finishing it. Everything is designed to run locally, and the bundled script is read-only.

Great for

  • Developers with many half-finished side projects who want to decide what to finish next
  • Someone about to start a new project who wants to check whether they already built a version
  • Developers curious about their own habits, such as where projects tend to stall

Skip it if

  • Cleaning up disk space or deleting node_modules, since dedicated cleanup tools fit better and this skill does not delete anything
  • Non-developers or people without git repositories, because the analysis relies entirely on git history
  • Reviewing a single repository's history in depth, where reading the git log directly is simpler

Try asking

  • “Run the graveyard on my ~/dev and ~/projects folders and tell me which old project is worth finishing”
  • “Why do I never finish side projects? Look at my dead repos and find patterns”
  • “I'm about to start a new habit tracker app; check whether I already built something similar”
  • “Revive the most promising abandoned project and help me plan how to ship it”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Project GraveyardInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 4 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    project-graveyard.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip project-graveyard.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip project-graveyard.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Point the scan at specific project folders rather than your whole home directory, since the skill itself advises this
  • Pass --me with any work or alternate email addresses so your commits are recognised and not skipped as someone else's
  • Treat the cause-of-death labels as guesses and check the evidence line before accepting them
