What it does
This skill is a navigation guide and reference library that tells an AI agent how to build MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers using the mcp-use framework. Once installed, when you ask the agent to create or change an MCP server, it first checks whether you are in an existing mcp-use project, scaffolds a new one if needed, and then reads the matching reference file for tools, resources, prompts, authentication, deployment or widgets before writing code.
Great for
- Developers building MCP servers with the mcp-use TypeScript framework
- Teams adding OAuth authentication (WorkOS, Supabase or custom providers) to an MCP server
- Anyone who wants an agent to follow consistent patterns when adding tools, resources or interactive widgets
Skip it if
- People who are not building MCP servers, since the guidance is specific to mcp-use and will not help with other tasks
- Projects that use a different MCP SDK, because the patterns and APIs target mcp-use specifically
- Production systems without review, since the agent may follow the reference patterns imperfectly and security-relevant code (auth, tokens, env vars) should be checked by a developer
Try asking
- “Create a new MCP server with a tool that fetches weather data”
- “Add OAuth login with WorkOS to my existing mcp-use server”
- “Add an interactive widget that lets users filter a product list”
- “Review my MCP server code for security issues”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip mcp-apps-builder.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip mcp-apps-builder.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Point the agent at an existing mcp-use project directory before asking for changes so it does not scaffold a duplicate project
- Ask the agent to name the specific reference file it used, so you can confirm it followed the guidance
- Review any generated auth configuration and environment variable handling before deploying
