PowerPoint (PPTX) Editing Skill

Lets an agent read, edit, create and repackage .pptx presentation files

What it does

Once installed, the agent knows how to work with PowerPoint (.pptx) files: extracting text from decks, editing existing slides or templates by unpacking the file's XML, adding or removing slides, and building new decks from scratch with a JavaScript library. It also carries design guidance for choosing colours, fonts and layouts, and a checklist for visually checking the result. The bundled Python scripts unpack, clean, validate, and repack the presentation's internal files.

Great for

  • Someone who needs to update a recurring slide deck built from a template
  • Anyone who wants an agent to pull text out of a .pptx for use in a summary or email
  • Developers automating presentation generation in a pipeline

Skip it if

  • Users who need to edit a deck they cannot afford to corrupt without keeping a backup: the scripts rewrite the file's internal XML, so keep the original copy first
  • Sensitive confidential decks sent to a cloud agent service, since the content is processed by the agent's model

Try asking

  • “Read this deck and summarise the key points on each slide”
  • “Update the figures on slide 4 of our quarterly template and keep the layout”
  • “Create a 10-slide pitch deck about our renewable energy startup”
  • “Add a new slide after slide 3 that duplicates its layout”
Step-by-step guide: how to use PowerPoint (PPTX) Editing SkillInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 15 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    pptx.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip pptx.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip pptx.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Keep a backup of the original .pptx before running the unpack, clean and pack workflow
  • Ask the agent to run the grep-based placeholder check before sharing a template-based deck
  • Give the agent a clear colour and audience brief, since the guidance favours distinctive palettes
