What it does
This skill gives an AI agent a senior PostgreSQL specialist playbook. When you ask about a slow query, replication setup, JSONB storage, extensions like PostGIS or pgvector, or VACUUM and bloat, the agent follows a structured workflow: run EXPLAIN (ANALYZE, BUFFERS), propose indexes and verify the planner uses them, and check pg_stat views for health. It loads separate reference notes on performance, JSONB, extensions, replication and maintenance as needed. The skill itself contains instructions and SQL examples; it does not run anything on its own.
Great for
- Backend developers diagnosing slow PostgreSQL queries
- DBAs reviewing replication lag or autovacuum settings
- Teams adding JSONB or pgvector features to an existing Postgres database
Skip it if
- Running changes directly against production databases without review, since the examples include CREATE INDEX and VACUUM statements the agent may suggest executing
- Non-PostgreSQL databases such as MySQL or SQL Server, where the syntax and tools differ
- Beginners who need a complete database design course rather than targeted expert guidance
Try asking
- “Why is this query doing a Seq Scan on my orders table? Show me how to fix it.”
- “Set up streaming replication from a primary to one standby and monitor lag.”
- “Design a GIN index for querying JSONB event payloads by containment.”
- “Our autovacuum seems behind on a high-churn table; check bloat and tune it.”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Give the agent EXPLAIN ANALYZE output and table sizes rather than asking for general advice.
- Test index and configuration changes on a staging copy first, and review any generated DDL before running it in production.
- Ask the agent to explain each recommendation so you can check it against your PostgreSQL version and workload.
