What it does

This skill teaches an AI agent to control a real web browser through the playwright-cli command line tool. Once installed, the agent can open a website, read a structured snapshot of the page, click buttons, type into forms, switch tabs, take screenshots, save PDFs, and record debugging traces. It is designed for step-by-step browser tasks rather than writing test code. A bundled shell script runs the tool through npx, so it works even without a global install.

Great for

  • Developers debugging a UI flow and wanting an agent to reproduce clicks and capture traces
  • People who need to fill in or check a web form or extract information from a site through repeated browser steps
  • Anyone who wants an agent to take screenshots or PDFs of live web pages

Skip it if

  • Automating logins or submitting forms on sites you do not own or have permission to test, since the agent will act with real credentials and live data
  • Sensitive work on production accounts, because the browser actions and any typed passwords are not sandboxed by this skill
  • Writing Playwright test files, which this skill explicitly avoids in favour of CLI-only steps

Try asking

  • “Open https://example.com/form, take a snapshot, and fill in the fields for my contact details”
  • “Debug why the checkout button on my staging site does nothing and record a trace”
  • “Take a screenshot of the pricing page on this site and save it to output/playwright/”
  • “List the open tabs and extract the headings from the second one”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 7 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    playwright.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip playwright.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip playwright.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Ask the agent to run with --headed when you want to watch what it does in the browser
  • Set PLAYWRIGHT_CLI_SESSION to keep separate browser sessions apart, and avoid using accounts you do not want the agent to access
  • Review the commands the agent proposes before it runs them, especially any eval or run-code steps
