What it does

When installed, the agent can turn a paper plan and research notes into a structured LaTeX paper project, with a main file, section files, shared math macros and a bibliography, formatted for a chosen venue such as ICLR, NeurIPS, ICML or IEEE. It is designed to fetch real BibTeX entries from DBLP/CrossRef rather than inventing citations, and it can use a Claude Code reviewer when the workflow is run from Codex. It is a drafting aid that follows a larger research pipeline, not a standalone writer.

Great for

  • Researchers who already have a paper outline (PAPER_PLAN.md) and research narrative and want a first LaTeX draft
  • Students preparing a conference or IEEE journal submission who need venue-correct templates and section structure
  • Teams using the wider Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep pipeline who want consistent section files

Skip it if

  • People without an existing outline or research notes: the skill expects PAPER_PLAN.md and NARRATIVE_REPORT.md and will otherwise ask for a brief outline, so output quality depends on the input.
  • Submitting generated text unreviewed: the drafted prose and results must be checked by the authors, since the skill itself says some citations may need [VERIFY] markers in legacy mode and the agent can still misstate findings.
  • Uses that need the paper's data to stay private: the workflow fetches bibliographic data from DBLP/CrossRef over the internet, and the draft content is produced by the agent's model.

Try asking

  • “Write paper: draft the Introduction and Related Work from my PAPER_PLAN.md and NARRATIVE_REPORT.md for an ICLR submission”
  • “Draft LaTeX for the method and experiments sections, using the figures in figures/latex_includes.tex”
  • “Set up an IEEE conference paper project with IEEEtran and cite-style references from my outline”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Paper Write (LaTeX Drafting)Install, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    paper-write.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip paper-write.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip paper-write.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Write a clear one-sentence contribution in PAPER_PLAN.md first; the skill uses it to shape the Abstract and Introduction.
  • Check the venue setting (ANONYMOUS, MAX_PAGES) before drafting, since IEEE venues differ from ML conferences in anonymity and page counting.
  • Review every citation and numerical claim against your own results before submission, even when DBLP lookup is enabled.
