What it does

Once installed, the agent turns a research paper into a conference poster laid out as a single HTML file sized to an exact print canvas, then renders it to a PDF using a headless Chromium browser. Before showing a design, it runs automated checks for column alignment, font and colour rules, and that figures come from the real paper with a provenance record, and it iterates on failures rather than just eyeballing the layout.

Great for

  • Researchers preparing a conference or workshop poster from a paper (.tex or PDF)
  • Students who need a print-ready poster with correct page dimensions and real figures

Skip it if

  • Users who need a fully hand-designed poster with custom artwork, since the closed fix vocabulary limits bespoke decoration by design
  • Anyone who cannot install Python, Playwright and Chromium, since the gates depend on them and the skill will not emit a final PDF without them

Try asking

  • “做海报 for my ICLR paper, 185x90cm landscape”
  • “Turn this arXiv PDF into a NeurIPS conference poster”
  • “Redo my research poster so the columns align and figures are from the paper”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Academic Poster Builder (HTML)Install, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 15 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    paper-poster-html.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip paper-poster-html.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip paper-poster-html.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Provide the paper directory or PDF plus the target venue so the agent can look up the current official poster size.
  • Keep the default generic palette unless you specifically want venue colours, since the skill is built around a two-hue system.
  • Review the venue spec table and template at the checkpoints before confirming, as the skill waits for explicit approval at each step.
