What it does
Once installed, the agent knows how to build a LaTeX research paper into a PDF using latexmk and pdflatex. When the build fails, it reads the compile log, tries common fixes (missing packages, broken figure paths, bad citation keys, BibTeX syntax), and recompiles up to three times. After a successful build it checks the PDF exists, counts pages against typical conference limits, and flags undefined references or citations.
Great for
- Researchers preparing a conference or journal submission who want a clean PDF built from LaTeX source
- Users who already have a LaTeX project in a paper/ folder and want build errors diagnosed automatically
- Authors checking whether a main body fits ML or IEEE page limits
Skip it if
- People without a LaTeX installation who do not want to install TeX Live or MacTeX, since the skill relies on those tools being present
- Projects whose folder layout differs from paper/main.tex without adjusting instructions, since the paths are hard-coded defaults
- Anyone expecting a full proofreading or peer-review pass; the visual check is described as a quick scan only
Try asking
- “Compile my paper and fix any errors”
- “Build the PDF for my submission in paper-directory ./paper”
- “Check whether my main body fits the 9-page ICLR limit”
- “Find why my LaTeX build says citation undefined and fix it”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Run it from a clean copy or after committing your work, because it runs latexmk -C and edits LaTeX source files automatically.
- Review the diff after auto-fixes, especially changes to references.bib and figure paths.
- Name your main file main.tex and keep sections in sections/ so the default checks work without edits.
