What it does

When installed, the agent treats a slow or hot-running web page as a performance problem to measure first. It opens the page in a browser, counts which animations keep running while off screen, and checks for leftover timers, listeners, and animation loops that pile up over time. It then makes targeted code edits so off-screen motion pauses and resumes when scrolled into view, and cleans up resources when components unmount, before verifying the results and reporting evidence.

Great for

  • Frontend developers with React, Vite or Next.js pages that get sluggish or heat up the laptop over a long session
  • Designers or developers who want animation-heavy pages (canvas, WebGL, GSAP, marquees) to stop wasting CPU/GPU when not visible
  • Teams auditing a site for memory leaks across route changes

Skip it if

  • Simple static sites or pages with no animation, where the workflow adds little value
  • Anyone expecting a one-click performance score without reviewing code edits, since the agent modifies source files and may commit changes when asked
  • Projects that cannot run a local browser or dev server, since the workflow depends on live browser measurements

Try asking

  • “Make the animations on my landing page stop running when they are scrolled out of view”
  • “My dashboard slows down the longer it stays open. Look for memory leaks and fix them”
  • “Profile the homepage on desktop and mobile and tell me which CSS animations are still running offscreen”
  • “Pause the marquee and canvas effects below the fold and verify with the browser that nothing runs offscreen”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Optimize Web AnimationsInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 7 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    optimize-web-animations.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip optimize-web-animations.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip optimize-web-animations.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Name the exact route you want profiled so the agent measures the right page at top, middle, footer and mobile viewports.
  • Review the diff before accepting it, especially cleanup code and any commits, since the agent edits source files and may run repo scripts.
  • Ask for a before-and-after comparison so you can see whether offscreen animation counts actually dropped.
