What it does

This skill teaches an AI agent to design an animated desktop companion, called a Mate pet, for the MiMo Desktop app. The agent asks about the character and style, generates a sprite sheet image (a grid of animation frames with a transparent background), converts it to WebP, and writes a manifest.json that describes the animations. The user then drops the folder into MiMo Desktop and selects it in settings.

Great for

  • Users of MiMo Desktop who want a personalised desktop buddy
  • Hobbyists making pixel-art or cartoon pets without animation tools
  • Designers prototyping a small looping character animation

Skip it if

  • Users who do not run MiMo Desktop, since the output only loads there (the pet would have no use elsewhere)
  • Anyone needing a general image or animation tool, since it only produces one narrow pet format
  • Tasks requiring external assets, because the skill forbids external URLs and relies on local files

Try asking

  • “Create a desktop pet of my cat with a cute kawaii style”
  • “Make a pixel-art dragon companion with an idle breathing animation”
  • “Generate a spritesheet and manifest.json for my custom pet called sparky”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    mate.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip mate.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip mate.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Ask for a single horizontal row of frames with a transparent background, and keep the character centred and the same size in every frame.
  • Check that the manifest frame counts and grid size match the generated image before copying the folder into MiMo Desktop.
  • Install libwebp (brew install webp) first so the agent can produce a valid WebP file instead of failing at conversion.
