What it does

This skill teaches an AI agent how to turn raw business or product metrics into a status report for leaders, such as a weekly, monthly or quarterly business review, a scorecard, or an executive summary. The agent is told to pull actual numbers from connected data sources first, compare them against targets or pacing, check whether any explanations for movement are validated, and then state what the team should do next. It also tells the agent to ask for clarification when a missing input would change the conclusion, and to refuse to build a report from placeholder numbers unless a mockup is explicitly requested.

Great for

  • Analysts or operators who prepare recurring WBR, MBR or QBR business reviews
  • Product or growth leads who need a KPI status update with targets and red/yellow/green labels
  • Teams that already have a semantic layer, BI dashboards or a data warehouse the agent can query

Skip it if

  • Designing a new metric system from scratch, since the skill says that belongs to a different skill (design-kpis)
  • Investigating why a metric moved without validated data, since the skill defers that to metric-diagnostics; the agent may otherwise present plausible but unproven explanations
  • Users with no access to a real source of truth, because the skill tells the agent to stop rather than substitute weaker data

Try asking

  • “Prepare this week's WBR readout for our checkout funnel, comparing conversion to target and last quarter”
  • “Draft a monthly scorecard for revenue, churn and active users with red/yellow/green status”
  • “Write an executive summary of Q3 KPI performance and the operating implications for the leadership team”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 3 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    kpi-reporting.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip kpi-reporting.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip kpi-reporting.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give the agent the exact KPI definitions, time window and target or pacing basis up front so it does not have to guess.
  • Connect the actual data source before asking for a report; without it the skill intentionally stops instead of drafting numbers.
  • Ask for driver explanations only after running a metric diagnostics pass, or accept that the agent will label unvalidated stories as hypotheses.
