What it does
When you ask the agent to structure an invention, it follows a set workflow: it frames the technical problem, solution and advantages, splits features into core, supporting and optional groups, suggests which claim categories to draft, plans the figures, and maps claim dependencies. It then asks an external reviewer model (via a configured MCP tool) to critique the structure and writes the result to patent/INVENTION_DISCLOSURE.md. The output is a planning draft to help a patent professional, not a filed patent.
Great for
- Inventors who have a rough idea and want a structured disclosure to take to a patent attorney
- Patent drafters looking for a checklist-style starting outline of problem, solution, claims and drawings
- Teams already using the Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep pipeline that want an invention-disclosure step
Skip it if
- Anyone expecting a legally valid patent application: the skill only produces a planning document, and legal novelty or claim scope needs a qualified patent attorney (the reviewer is also an AI model, not an attorney)
- Users without the referenced files (patent/PRIOR_ART_REPORT.md, NOVELTY_ASSESSMENT.md, shared references): the skill expects them and its quality depends on them
- Confidential inventions shared with external reviewer services: the reviewer step sends invention summaries to a third-party model, which may be a disclosure risk before filing
Try asking
- “structure invention: a water-saving irrigation sensor that adjusts watering from soil moisture trends”
- “invention disclosure for my battery thermal management idea, using patent/INVENTION_BRIEF.md”
- “formalize this rough idea into a patent-ready structure: a method for compressing sensor logs on-device”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Provide a clear invention description and, if you have them, prior art and novelty files first, so the problem statement is grounded in real deficiencies
- Treat the output as a draft to review with a registered patent professional before any filing
- Check which external reviewer backend is configured, since the skill sends invention content to it and the default model name in the file should be verified
