What it does

When installed, the agent can inspect the current project's AI assistant setup (such as Claude or Codex instruction files, settings, hooks, and MCP connections) and report where they look broken or out of date, such as instructions being ignored or references pointing to missing files. It also checks whether the codebase is easy for AI agents to maintain, such as whether verification checks exist and whether stale docs or verifier output point at old paths. It produces a prioritized report with suggested next steps; it is designed to be report-only and not to fix things without permission.

Great for

  • Developers whose Claude Code or Codex agent keeps ignoring project instructions
  • Teams wanting a periodic check of agent config, hooks, and MCP setup
  • Maintainers noticing AI-generated code quality declining over time

Skip it if

  • Finding application bugs or reviewing pull requests (the skill says it is not for these)
  • Users who do not want local scripts run automatically, since the bundled checks execute Python and shell scripts and may read session history
  • Deep audits on large token budgets without awareness, since deep runs can consume significant quota

Try asking

  • “Check why Claude is ignoring the instructions in my AGENTS.md”
  • “Audit my agent config, hooks and MCP setup for problems”
  • “Run a health check on my AI coding setup for code rot”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Agent Config Health AuditInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 15 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    health.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip health.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip health.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Ask for a static-only audit (e.g. 'only review instructions and settings') to skip session history entirely.
  • Review the report before asking for any repairs; the skill does not authorize fixes on its own.
  • Expect a deep audit to be announced before it starts, since it can use significant token quota.
