What it does

When installed, the agent reviews code changes and pull requests before merging or releasing. It reads the diff, the project's public docs, CI workflows and manifests, then reports concise findings first, followed by the verification it actually ran. It can also triage issues and PRs, judge whether a change is worth a release, and run a project-wide code-quality audit that produces a scorecard. It is report-only by default and will not edit, commit, push, publish or comment unless you explicitly authorize that action.

Great for

  • Developers who want a second, structured pass over a diff before merging
  • Maintainers triaging a backlog of issues or PRs
  • Teams that want a release-readiness checklist tied to real CI and package state

Skip it if

  • Debugging root causes of a specific bug, since the skill is scoped to review and release work rather than investigation (the description says so explicitly)
  • Prose or document review without a code component, which is delegated to a separate writing capability
  • Repositories where you have not reviewed the scripts, because audit mode runs bundled Python scripts that read your project tree

Try asking

  • “Review my current diff before I merge this branch”
  • “Triage the open issues and PRs in this repo and tell me what needs attention”
  • “Is this change worth a release? Check the release surfaces and CI”
  • “Run a project health audit and give the codebase a scorecard”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Code Review and Release CheckInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 15 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    check.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip check.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip check.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • State the review surface explicitly (for example, 'review only the security-sensitive files') to keep the report focused.
  • Give explicit authorization for any write or public action in the same request, because the skill will not commit, push, comment or close without it.
  • Ask for the audit or ship mode by name when you need the scorecard or release decision rather than a plain review.
