What it does

When you come back to a project and say something like "where were we", this skill tells the agent to look up the most recent saved session for the current folder using the agentmemory memory tools. It then pulls related notes and reports what was in progress, leading with any question you left unanswered, and ends with a suggested next step. It is designed to avoid mixing in sessions from sibling folders with similar names.

Great for

  • Developers who switch between several projects and lose track of where they stopped
  • Anyone who runs agentmemory and wants a clean restart at the beginning of a session

Skip it if

  • Projects where agentmemory is not installed or not recording sessions, since the skill depends on its memory_sessions and memory_recall tools and will simply report no match
  • Sensitive or shared machines, because resumed summaries may expose earlier conversation content from stored memory

Try asking

  • “where were we?”
  • “Resume the most recent session for this repo”
  • “pick up where I left off on the auth work”
  • “handoff /path/to/other/project”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Session Handoff ResumeInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 3 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    handoff.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip handoff.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip handoff.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Pass an explicit project path as the argument if the current directory is not the project you want to resume
  • If no session is found, start a fresh session rather than assuming prior context exists
  • Check the unanswered question the skill surfaces before acting on the suggested next step
