What it does
This skill teaches an AI agent to inspect Google Cloud Filestore network file storage instances, measure how much space is used, and compare free space against scale-up and scale-down thresholds. It then recommends resizing instances and shows the commands to do so. The agent is told to ask for your confirmation before changing any capacity, and to answer purely conceptual questions from its own knowledge without running commands.
Great for
- Cloud or platform engineers who manage Filestore instances and want to avoid out-of-space outages
- Teams that want a repeatable capacity review across all Filestore instances in a project
- Operators who want cost-saving scale-down suggestions for Zonal or Regional instances
Skip it if
- Cloud Storage buckets, Persistent Disk, or NetApp Volumes, which the skill explicitly excludes; the wrong tool will give wrong advice
- Production projects where you have not reviewed IAM roles, since the skill expects editor-level permissions and resizing can affect running workloads
- Users who want fully unattended scaling, because the skill requires confirmation before resizing
Try asking
- “Check all Filestore instances in my project and tell me which ones are below 15% free space.”
- “Which of my Filestore instances can safely scale down without going below used space?”
- “Explain the Filestore tier limits for Basic versus Zonal instances.”
- “Show me the gcloud command to grow instance nfs-share by 10% but do not run it.”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Review the proposed gcloud or API command and confirm the target capacity before the agent executes it, since resizes change billing and can affect live workloads.
- Use a dedicated service account with only the listed roles, and avoid granting roles/file.editor on production projects you have not reviewed.
- Note that custom thresholds are described as applying globally in session memory, so check that they match what you intended for each project.
