What it does

Once installed, the agent knows how to manage server-hosted 'agent' resources on Google's Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. It can write the exact REST requests to create an agent with system instructions, tools, files pulled from Google Cloud Storage, and optional external MCP tool servers, then poll the long-running job until the agent is ready. It is a reference guide for a developer-facing API rather than an end-user app.

Great for

  • Developers building stateful, server-managed agents on Google Cloud who want an assistant to write the API calls for them
  • Teams automating provisioning of agent containers with mounted Cloud Storage files or skills
  • Engineers integrating third-party MCP tool servers into a Gemini agent configuration

Skip it if

  • People who just want to chat with Gemini; this skill only covers managing agent resources through the API (reason: no end-user features)
  • Projects without a Google Cloud project and billing set up (reason: requests need a project ID and an access token from gcloud)
  • Anyone wanting to skip reviewing configs: the example sets network allowlist domain to '*' and grants code execution and filesystem tools, which is broad access (reason: security exposure if copied unchanged)

Try asking

  • “Create a new Gemini agent named my-support-bot with code execution and Google Search tools, and show me the curl command”
  • “Check the status of my agent creation operation and show the finished Agent resource when done”
  • “Update my agent's system instruction and list all agents in my project”
  • “Show me how to mount a Cloud Storage skills folder into an agent's workspace”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Gemini Managed Agents APIInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 2 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    gemini-agents-api.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip gemini-agents-api.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip gemini-agents-api.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Use a narrowly scoped project and restrict the network allowlist and tool list rather than using the wildcard domain shown in the example
  • Never paste real access tokens or MCP secrets into chat; keep them in environment variables and review commands before the agent runs them
  • Read the referenced attribution file first, since the skill requires it before running gcloud or REST commands and adds a User-Agent header
