What it does

This skill makes the agent follow a fixed onboarding workflow for one specific task, the one that invokes /first-task in Paperclip. Instead of starting work right away, the agent asks a few questions about your goal, constraints and what done looks like, then proposes either a saved plan or a single child task. It does not hire agents or do the work until you explicitly approve the proposal on a confirmation card or in chat. The skill also tells the agent to record your accept or reject decisions before acting on them.

Great for

  • New Paperclip users who want guided help choosing their first task
  • Teams who want an approval step before an agent hires helpers or starts execution

Skip it if

  • Agents or tasks outside the onboarding task, since the skill says it must not apply to other work
  • Users who want immediate, unreviewed execution, because every action waits for approval

Try asking

  • “Pick the interview option so the agent asks questions about my organization before proposing a plan”
  • “Type a task like 'draft a weekly status report' and have the agent propose one child task for my approval”
  • “Ask for a saved plan with a proposed team before anything is hired”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    first-task.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip first-task.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip first-task.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Answer the opening card with a concrete goal and constraints so the agent can propose quickly
  • Review any plan or child task scope carefully before accepting, since acceptance authorizes hiring and execution
  • Reject with a reason if the proposal is off, which makes the agent revise it
