What it does
When you ask, the agent reads every design document or README in a folder, finds the code those documents describe, and checks whether the code has drifted away from the written spec. It looks for missing features, missing fields, hardcoded values where logic was planned, and different libraries or patterns than proposed. It then saves a dated markdown report listing only the differences, or 'No drift detected' for each document.
Great for
- Engineering teams who keep design docs or READMEs alongside code and want to catch stale specs
- Reviewers preparing for a release who want a quick consistency check across many docs
Skip it if
- Projects with no written design docs, since there is nothing to compare against
- Situations needing a verified audit: the agent's judgement can miss or invent differences, so results need human review
Try asking
- “Check all design docs in docs/designs for drift against the current source code”
- “Detect drift between the READMEs in this monorepo and their implementations”
- “Write a drift report for the design documents in ./specs and tell me which ones have no drift”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Point the agent at a specific design directory and say which source tree to compare against
- Add links from each design doc to its source files so future checks are faster and more accurate
- Review the generated DRIFT_REPORT.md yourself before acting on it, since findings are model-generated
